How to get home from the Death March

So, people are always asking me, “Why don’t you rent a bus?”

My response is usually, “Do I look like Rich Uncle Moneybags?” But just for shits and giggles, I’ve looked it up. It’s not cheap.

My own hobbies have made me consider taking the Metro bus. Now that the banquet isn’t in the boondocks, this isn’t as bad of a choice as before. Only $3 and 1 hours 40 minutes.

There’s also the Uber route. In fact, this is going to be my emergency idea for this year. If you get stranded at the beach, you can ride an Uber for free (new customers only, up to $30) to the brewery (I got a quote for $24-32). It might cost you a bit to get to your car at the starting point. Either way, keep this option in mind: https://www.uber.com/invite/1htej

Are you sensing a theme yet? Really, the best way for the last 16 years has been to just get a ride with your team. The only way you can be sure to get a ride is to join the Ride Corps. You are your best option.

Also, one little note: if your car is in disrepair, you might want to skip being in the Ride Corps. Seriously. It is better to have options at the beach than to strand yourself and 3 other people in the middle of Fernwood.

WE NEED DRIVERS!! Pre-reg or join the Facebook event or Google+ event!

PLEASE DO NOT sign up for the Ride Corps unless you ABSOLUTELY can commit to doing this, and you can definitely be there on time!!

Note: If you drive, you get EXTRA RANK POINTS!! Driving as part of the Ride Corps is the easiest way to earn extra rank points.

Being part of the Ride Corps means you are going to meet at the Los Liones Drive end point, just west of Sunset Blvd (http://goo.gl/maps/sOZX0) at 8am SHARP.

Team Captains:
If you are driving, you are the Captain of a team. Congratulations! You can also add other drivers to your team, and everyone they drive is also part of your team (non-Team Captain drivers are known as RANGERS. Badass). Your team then will stick together throughout the hike and your will all stick together and all make it back together. RIGHT? If your team wins, you will get to choose next year’s theme.

 HOW IT WORKS
===– DMttS –===

To drive as a Team Captain:
Select your team, made up of people who are attending the Death March. These people, your team, are the people to whom you will give a ride home at the end of the Death March. Meet at Starbucks at 7 in the morning, drive your car to the end point of the hike, then a Ranger will give you a ride back to the start, so you and your team can hike with the Death March to your car… then you just drive back so everyone can get their cars from the start point and head to the banquet! You get an extra rank point as the driver, and if your team is the first full team to complete the March, you as Captain get to create the following year’s Death March Theme!!

To drive as a Ranger:
Show up at Starbucks with the Team Captains and drive with them to the car drop-off point at the end point of the hike. Then, drive the Team Captains back to the start point so they (and you) can participate in the Death March! You get an extra rank point! You still need to make sure that you are a member of a Team so that you can get a ride home at the end of the hike.

WEST SIDERS:
If you live closer to the end point, you can skip Starbucks and meet us there at 8am. The end point is on Los Liones Drive, just west of Sunset Blvd.
